In 2020 I changed my lifestyle.
My wife and I decided to escape the hustle and bustle of Johannesburg life. I was mostly rushed, often stressed, overworked and not living life.
We moved to a seaside town to a more relaxed, slower life.
It’s been a complete revolution. For the first 18 months, I felt like my body just needed to recover. (I threw on average 200000-400000 balls per year to aspiring cricketers for more than 20 years.) My energy levels were low and getting up motivated was a huge struggle on most days. I had 5 jobs to meet the stress and worry about finances. Ran a private cricket academy and was the head coach at a club and a school. I ran coaching courses (Cricket South Africa Level 1& 2) and was attempting to build a mental performance coaching business.
Now… my body has recovered, my mind is relaxed and my motivation to get shit done is back.
This gets me to the point of this article… my wife and I spoke a few weeks back. We don’t feel like we need a holiday.
It’s weird really, because I used to live a life where it was all grind so that I could be on holiday in December.
We see thousands of people from other parts of the country come down to the coast for their few weeks’ break to only go back to the grind with a promise of something new which will only forgotten by mid-January…
And so as we stare down the barrel of a new year perhaps with thankfulness for what was, either because we are glad it’s over and so we hope for something better to come or perhaps because we have had a great year and are thankful for the blessings we had. Either way, it’s a great time to dream or hope for what might be.
I know that you know… that nothing will be different this year.
Yep, nothing…
Unless you make it different…
Make that tough choice…
Make the call…
Have the conversation
Take that action that seems impossible.
I am going to do the same and will let you know soon what some of that is for me.
